Critical Issue

Lost profit due to overspending on telecommunications services from multiple providers.

Secondary Critical Issue

Service was being delivered from multiple providers making fault finding slow and fault resolution difficult, often with shifted blame.

Proposal

After looking at the options / costing and considering Turnstones offer it was decided that Cardinal Freight Distribution would migrate themselves onto the Turnstone Converged Network.

As Cardinal Freight Distribution was a business that had multiple branches and a large proportion of their communications expenditure was being spent on inter-branch communication they were a perfectly suited to our network.

Capability (when, who, what)

The plan was set in place and the Turnstone network was installed and configured to run alongside their current network and phone system.  The phone system was running for approximately 1 month while the bugs were being ironed out and the migration process took place.

The system was thoroughly tested before it was made live to ensure that there was no interruption to business communication or productivity.

Cardinal Freight Distribution received a Cisco Call Manager Express system and either a Cisco 7940 or a 7912 series IP based telephone for each staff member’s desk.

Turnstone used a Linux based asterisk system to handle the voicemail automatic attendant and faxing. Each staff members voicemail is delivered to their email and an additional notification light shows up on their desk phone.
Prior to the telephone system being installed we installed the WAN at each site and migrated the data networking over.  It was important for the directors and management of Cardinal to see how we worked and was a fantastic opportunity to prove ourselves and our product.

To date our networking services have been installed and running there for about 5 months.

Timeline

Once we had received the signoff for the purchase of the system Turnstone had to get some fiber optic and frame relay connections installed.  This took about 1 month to get the physical lines run into the buildings and connections live.
